The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme
We have two initiatives to sponsor Duke of Edinburgh Award participants. Firstly, for those who would benefit by receiving support and sponsorship and for those who show initiative in assisting others in need. In 2014 we sponsored two D of E participants on a High Peak Wilderness First Aid 40hr course: they were introduced to us by Jo Bradshaw who had attended a first aid course with High Peak First Aid. Jo had the intention of climbing Everest in the spring of 2015 and giving a group of Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award students the opportunity to raise funds for charity and accompany her to Nepal to climb a Himalayan Peak. The D of E participants were successful in their summit of Lobuche East and left for the UK before Jo had to be evacuated by helicopter from Camp 1 on Everest when the earthquake struck. For 2016 we will be sponsoring a new team of Gold D of E participants who Jo has yet to select. It’s not all about a big trip overseas as we regularly support “keen beans” in a variety of ways who stand out when we provide Duke of Edinburgh Award First Aid Training at our venue or in schools. We also offer you the opportunity to nominate a young person who would benefit in being sponsored by High Peak First Aid. Photos courtesy of Jo Bradshaw.
