Altitude (1.5hrs)
- Strategies to minimise the occurrence of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), High Altitude Pulmonary Oedema (HAPE) and High Altitude Cerebral Oedema (HACE)
- Treatment of AMS, HAPE and HACE: use of drugs, oxygen, Portable Altitude Chamber (PAC), GAMOW bag and evacuation
- Oxygen Administration
- Frost Nip and Frost Bite
Facing disaster when working or travelling overseas (2hrs)
- Planning and preparation to mitigate against disaster
- Definition of disaster, rapid and slow onset
- Technological disasters (man made). Displaced populations, industrial and transport, conflict and famine
- Natural disasters: geophysical, (earthquake, tsunami, volcanic, landslides), hydrological (avalanche and floods), meteorological (cyclones and wave surges), biological (disease, epidemics, insect and animal plagues), climatological (extremes of temperature, drought and wildfires)
- Incident management and rescue co-ordination overseas
- Triage for Adults and children (sieve and sort)
